About Annual Women and their Mental Health Conference

The Royal College of Psychiatrists presents this year’s Women and Mental Health Conference – “Let’s Talk About Sex”. The conference focuses on sex and sexuality in mental health in particular the impact of societal notions of female sexuality on mental health.

This year’s conference is uncompromising in its examination of the role of societal expectations of female sexuality in the development of mental health problems in women. To this end there will be discussion of the prevalence of mental health problems in women; the relationship of these to sexual abuse and exploitation; the role of pornography and the exponential growth of cosmetic surgical procedures in women.

Sessions include:
Societal expectations of female sexuality and the impact on women’s mental health
Sexual abuse and exploitation and the development of mental health problems in women
Women, pornography and mental health
Women, cosmetic surgery and mental health
Panel discussion – Women’s mental health will only improve when the media stop propagating unrealistic images of “Barbie doll” females.
