13th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy)

13th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy)

We are proud to announce that the 13th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) will take place in Madrid, Spain on April 4-7, 2019.
It is difficult to keep pace with the enormous growth in clinical and basic data in neurology. Conferences are informative, but there is often only limited time for thorough and critical discussions. CONy provides a platform for international experts to discuss and compare experiences, thus closing the gap between the expansion of knowledge and its dissemination and use.
The core of the CONy Congress focus on unresolved issues debated by leading world experts. The Congress aims to provide the most recent data armoring the clinician with reliable, up-to-date scientific information, helping in everyday patient care.
We cordially invite you to join us in the beautiful city of Madrid!

35th Annual Conference, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Perinatal Medicine, Neonatology, and the Law

35th Annual Conference, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Perinatal Medicine, Neonatology, and the Law

To err is human, but so is the ability to anticipate and prevent or avoid medical error. When death or permanent harm occurs as a consequence of medical negligence, there is little, if any, likelihood that survivor or family will readily accept the refrain “to err is human”. Fortunately, not all who fall victim to medical error initiate legal action, but many do. The National Practitioner Database shows that between 2006-2016, for 102,659 sued physicians, there were 109,672 malpractice payments, and 60,460 Adverse Action Reports. The Physicians Insurers Association of America had, by 2012, paid out 81,000 claims, totaling nearly $25,000,000,000.
Despite the evolution of a “culture of patient safety” over almost two decades, death and harm due to medical negligence remain a serious problem. Indeed, estimates clearly indicate that medical negligence is the third cause of death in the US, after heart disease and cancer. It is of no comfort to know that medical negligence is universal.
While the causes of medical negligence are multi-factorial and complex, individual and systemic, there is a clear need for a fundamental change in the education of medical students and the training of residents. Moreover, required risk management credits for practicing physicians have largely been ineffective, and a new approach is long overdue.
These two multispecialty conferences bring into sharp focus new and established guidelines and standards of care, issues of competence, new advances, new judicial opinions, and ethics. The first conference concentrates on pregnancy, its management and the newborn, while the interdigitating and overlapping second conference takes up discussion along similar themes, but in multiple specialties.

Workshop NeuroIntensiveMedicine ANIM 2019

Workshop NeuroIntensiveMedicine ANIM 2019

The treatment of neuromedical emergencies is relatively high in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The greatest progress has been made in acute stroke; With 307 certified stroke units, the supply situation in Germany even stands out internationally. The interdisciplinary neurovascular centers and networks complement this nationwide structure and strengthen the cooperation between the partner subjects of neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology. But there are also new questions.
Do “interdisciplinary emergency medical outpatient clinics”, “integrated emergency centers” or independent central emergency departments in hospitals endanger or promote what has been achieved? Is preclinical decision-making sufficiently good to separate patients with non-acute threatening illnesses from those with time-critical conditions or to bring patients with a polytrauma, an acute coronary syndrome or a stroke on the individual optimal route in the hospital without loss of time? How do we solve the increasing problem of “self-presenting pedestrians”? These health policy issues will be addressed in the presidential symposium of ANIM 2019, as well as in several symposia.
Each year is dedicated to the ANIM – the A rbeitstagung N € I ntensiv Medizin – but above all our scientific advances and the further education of all occupational groups working in neurointensive medicine. As the President of the 36th Joint Annual Meeting of the German Society for Neuro-intensive and Emergency Medicine (DGNI) and the German Stroke Society (DSG), I would like to invite you to Berlin from 17 to 19 January 2019. Here again we would like to present and discuss comprehensive clinical studies. Other key topics will be the pre- and post-hospital phase of stroke treatment, but also subarachnoid haemorrhage and neuroinfectiology. Last but not least, we would also like to address concepts of training and promotion of young talent.
