KOSMOS, Berlin

The KOSMOS was opened in 1961 as the most modern movie theater in the GDR and a major prestige project. At a time when the whole world was eagerly awaiting the "race into space", the architects Josef Kaiser, Herbert Aust, and Günter Kunert drew their edifice on space in a contemporary spirit - even the interior lights are modeled on the jets of a space shuttle.

Immediately after the fall of the Berlin Wall, UFA took over the KOSMOS and modernized the landmarked building to become the first multiplex cinema in the new federal states. Since 2005, KOSMOS KG has been successfully operating and developing KOSMOS as an event location.
