“The National Mental Health Crisis Summit takes a practical case study based approach to improving services and outcomes for people with mental health conditions requiring urgent and crisis care. The day will focus on improving services for mental health crisis care, through learning from organisations that have succeeded in addressing the challenge of improving access and delivering an effective mental health crisis pathway in line with the national concordat. Case Studies of Beyond Places of Safety Crisis services will be presented following the Department of Health additional funding focusing on timely support to relieve pressures on hospitals by reducing unnecessary visits to A&E for those experiencing a crisis.

“Welcome to the SELECTBIO Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Global Health 2018.

This annual conference will discuss the expanding Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Global Health fields and bring in the Emerging Viral Diseases field providing the most up-to-date presentations from leaders in these fields and offer networking and engagement opportunities with delegates from around the world.

This conference will provide an overview of the point-of-care (POC) testing landscape, from novel technologies to regulatory approval. Experts in these fields will share their views on point-of-care in the clinical setting. The aim of this meeting is to bring together life science researchers that work at the interface between biology and chemistry and technology development to discuss problems, highlight solutions and facilitating collaborations. Also, we frame the role of POC testing in the expanding Global Health field and highlight opportunities existing in many parts of the world.

This conference covers POC Detection, POC Diagnostics and POC-based Treatment Options as part of the Comprehensive Coverage of this Expanding Field. Lack of sleep, migraines, life events, vision or hearing loss and neurodegenerative disorders can all play a role in the experience of hallucinations. But what happens in our brains when we hallucinate? And what does this mean for new treatments and interventions?
Join us for Swinburne’s annual Barbara Dicker Oration, bringing our attention to the underlying mechanisms that cause hallucinations and profiling the inspiring work of Professor Iris Sommer (University Medical Centre Groningen) as she delivers The phenomenon of hallucinations.
Biography: Professor Iris Sommer is a best-selling author of two scientific books and has published over 250 academic articles on hallucinations, language, cognition and psychosis. She obtained her PhD cum laude at University Utrecht in 2004 on brain imaging in schizophrenia. In 2011, she was appointed Professor of Psychiatry at the University Medical Centre Utrecht, Netherlands. Currently, she is Professor of Cognitive Aspects of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorder at the Department of Neuroscience at the University Medical Center Groningen, Netherlands.
